WHAT WE DO

Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release and Retirement Services

PROGRAMS & PROJECTS.

As part of our commitment to wildlife rescue and conservation, iRescue Wildlife offers various programs and projects aimed at protecting and preserving wildlife in Costa Rica. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to provide rescue, rehabilitation, and retirement services for animals seized by the government. Through our community conservation initiatives, we engage with local communities to promote the importance of biodiversity, humane treatment of wildlife, and the preservation of natural habitats.

Rescue

Our core rescue service response team responds swiftly to reports of injured, orphaned, confiscated, or trafficked wildlife across southern Costa Rica's Pérez Zeledón region. Licensed by SINAC and MINAE, we provide immediate emergency care, veterinary assessment, and safe transport to our private 500-acre mountain facility. Specializing in mammals and birds, we prioritize rapid intervention to stabilize animals affected by illegal pet trade, habitat threats, or human wildlife conflict offering a compassionate lifeline where few options exist.

Rehabilitation

At iRescue, our dedicated rehabilitation service offers compassionate, round-the-clock care for injured or confiscated mammals and birds, including custom enclosures and specialized diets for elderly, disfigured, or handicapped animals unable to return to the wild. In our private 500-acre haven, we prioritize lifelong retirement with dignity, ensuring every creature thrives in a protected, biodiverse environment.

Retirement

Animals too broken to return home find sanctuary for life at iRescue. Deep in our private mountain refuge, permanently injured, elderly, or deeply imprinted mammals and birds live out their days in peace. Custom built enclosures mimic wild forests; enriched habitats spark natural instincts; specialized diets and gentle, round-the-clock care soothe old wounds. Here, dignity replaces despair every resident cherished, every sunset witnessed in quiet safety.

Education

At iRescue, we are committed to fostering the next generation of wildlife stewards through our upcoming relaunch of the iRescue Footprints educational campaign in Q4 2026. This engaging program teaches children across Costa Rica the vital importance of protecting and preserving the country’s extraordinary biodiversity by respecting wildlife in its natural habitat and never keeping wild animals as pets. Through interactive lessons on Costa Rica’s strict wildlife laws, kids learn about the consequences of the illegal pet trade and the value of conservation. The highlight is a heartfelt pledge: each child dips their hand in paint, presses it onto a promise document, and signs their commitment to honor wildlife’s freedom creating a lasting “footprint” of responsibility and compassion.

Release

The successful release of rehabilitated wildlife back into their natural habitat represents the heart of our mission. Our strategic FONAFIFO protected location at 3,200 feet in southern Costa Rica’s mountains bordered by over 10,000 acres of pristine wilderness offers an unparalleled advantage. This vast, uninterrupted natural corridor provides ideal conditions for soft releases, allowing animals to transition safely into secure, biodiverse ecosystems teeming with food sources and minimal human interference, ensuring long-term survival and contributing to the restoration of Costa Rica’s irreplaceable wildlife populations.

Advocacy

Our advocacy extends far beyond rescue and care. We actively champion the protection of Costa Rica’s wildlife through education, legal reinforcement, and community engagement. By highlighting the country’s landmark laws banning wild animals as pets, we combat the illegal wildlife trade and raise awareness about its devastating impact. Through our upcoming iRescue Footprints campaign, we empower children to become lifelong advocates, inspiring pledges to respect wildlife in its natural habitat and fostering a culture of compassion and conservation that safeguards biodiversity for future generations.
